Everton midfielder Ross Barkley has denied reports that he had a medical at Chelsea on Thursday.

The 23 year old midfielder snubbed a move to Chelsea on transfer deadline day, after the Blues agreed a £30m fee with Everton.

It was claimed that Barkley changed his mind during medicals but he has come out to clarify the situation.

Barkey revealed on Saturday via social media that he didn’t undergo a medical at Chelsea.

“Contrary to a number of reports in the press, I did not undertake a medical with any club at any point,” Barkley wrote on his official Twitter account.

“I simply decided that due to my injury, it would be best to make a decision on my future and assess all my options in January when fully fit.

“Thanks for all of the support.”

Barkley’s comment contradict those of Everton chief Farhad Moshiri, who claimed the player had a medical at Chelsea.

“The two clubs agreed a deal of £35m and I think personal terms were agreed,” Moshiri said on Thursday.

“After the medical we heard from Paul Martin, Ross Barkley’s agent, that he had changed his mind and wanted to reconsider his position in the January window.

“He’s currently injured so technically he will be with us, he is under contract for another year. It’s a big surprise, but that’s football.”

Whether Barkley did a medical at Chelsea or not, it doesn’t change the fact that he snubbed a move to Stamford Bridge.

The Blues were willing to spend big on him, despite the fact he will not be available for the next three months and that should have been enough to convince him, but no, the midfielder wants to keep his options open.
