Arsenal are reportedly showing interest in a deal to sign Juventus defender Daniele Rugani on a season-long loan.
According to Corriere Torino, via The Metro, Arsenal are unable to afford a permanent move for the defender and are, instead, looking into the possibility of landing him on loan.
Rugani has been forced further down the pecking order at Juventus by the arrival of Matthijs De Ligt in Turin, which could allow Arsenal to bring him to the Premier League in the next two weeks.
But, would he solve Arsenal’s issues at the back?
It is no secret that Arsenal need to improve defensively after last season, having shipped in far too many goals – including a number of individual errors from players at the back.
Unai Emery will be desperate to add a top quality central defender to his squad before the end of the window, so does Rugani fit the bill?
The Italian international played 20 games in all competitions for Juventus last season and has featured in 87 matches for the club since his move from Empoli in 2015.
Although he has not been the first-choice during his time at Juventus, he has had world-class defender Giorgio Chiellini and Leonardo Bonucci ahead of him for the majority of his time there.
One of Rugani’s main strengths is his passing, which suggests that he would suit Emery’s style of play as he would be comfortable in playing out from the back.
At 24, he also has plenty of room to develop and Emery could help him progress his game further, as well as learning alongside experienced centre-back Sokratis.
