Report via the Sun, claims Arsenal are eying a surprise move for Hector Herrera as a possible replacement for outbound midfielder Aaron Ramsey who is set to exit the Emirate Stadium either in January or in summer for free after rejecting a contract extension with the club.
Ramsey is reportedly being targeted by Liverpool and Manchester United and could leave in January as Arsenal aim to cash in before his deal expires in the summer.
The departure of Ramsey would leave a big hole in Arsenal’s side, one Emery is keen to fill as quickly as possible.
Herrera, 28, is the Porto captain and, like Ramsey, his contract at his current side runs out next summer.
It means he would be able to move for a cut-price fee in January or can negotiate a pre-contract Bosman agreement to move at the end of the season.
It is believed Arsenal are keen on bringing the Mexican and have frequently sent scouts to watch him in action.
Arsenal will have to act fast in negotiating the arrival of Herrera as the Sun further claims Real Madrid are also monitoring his situation.
