Whilst the transfer window has shut for Premier League and Championship clubs in England, it remains open for most European Leagues until the start of September.
This means that teams playing in those leagues can still sign English players until their own deadline expires.
And one club anticipating plenty of movement out of the door are Arsenal. Already 20 players have left the Emirates this summer in one capacity or another – either sold or on loan – and the clear-out looks set to continue.
The Gunners are prepared to listen to offers for Shkodran Mustafi, Mohamed Elneny, Mesut Ozil and Henrikh Mhkitaryan, although the latter two may be hard to shift because of their high wages. Emile Smith-Rowe and Reiss Nelson could be allowed to leave on loan again.
The imminent departures were confirmed by Unai Emery speaking at the press conference ahead of the opening weekend fixture at Newcastle United, with the Spaniard saying “In the next 20-25 days some players will leave. It’s the reason, I want to close our squad clearly.”
