Arsenal are reportedly keeping close tabs on Salzburg attacker Hwang Hee-chan. Hwang, 23, has had an outstanding start to the league campaign, scoring five goals in seven matches for Salzburg who sit top of the Austrian Bundesliga.
The South Korea international has also impressed in the Champions League and shone in the side’s thrilling 4-3 defeat to Liverpool at Anfield earlier this month.
Hwang caused Liverpool problems all night and turned PFA Player of the Year Virgil van Dijk inside out to open the scoring for Salzburg on Merseyside.
According to The Daily Mail, Hwang’s barnstorming form has caught the attention of Arsenal ahead of the January transfer window.
The report claims that both the Gunners and Crystal Palace have both sent scouts to watch the forward this season. It’s understood a host of major clubs from around Europe are also monitoring Hwang.
Salzburg striker Erling Haaland, who has also been linked with a move to Europe in recent weeks, praised Hwang’s performance after the side’s defeat to Liverpool.
‘Absolutely crazy, he was brilliant today,’ the Norwegian told UEFA.com. ‘He is so important to the team. ‘We have mixed feelings.
We did well to come back, but we’re disappointed to have lost.’ On his partnership with Haaland, Hwang said: ‘We obviously understand each other very well.’
