Arsenal have been given a boost in their efforts to sign Nicolas Pepe, according to the Mirror.
Lille manager Christophe Galtier sees the forward as ready to take the next step in his career, but the £60 million ($78m) asking price is a stumbling block.
Pepe has had a barnstorming season for Lille, scoring 16 goals in all competitions, and Europe’s elite are reportedly queueing up to sign the 23-year-old winger ahead of the 2019/20 campaign.
Asked about the rumours surrounding Pepe’s future, Lille boss Galtier replied: ‘Nicolas Pepe is having a great season and he will continue to improve.
‘He has to go to a Champions League club. In my opinion, he does not need an intermediate step to go as high as possible.’
Galtier cheekily added that he envisages Pepe playing for team in red. But this doesn’t exactly narrow it down seeing as Lille, Bayern, Arsenal and United all wear the colour red.
