The Henrikh Mkhitaryan-Alexis Sanchez swap deal has turned out to be a nightmare for Man Utd and Arsenal, Ian Wright claims.

Mkhitaryan joined Arsenal from Manchester United in January 2018 in a swap deal that involved Alexis Sanchez moving in the opposite direction.

“Mkhitaryan hasn’t really done it in the Premier League but we are still talking about a quality player that has come in and he should be performing better,” he told Premier League Productions.

“When you look at the statistics of him and Alexis Sanchez who he swapped with and they have both had an absolute nightmare. Honestly, they have had an absolute nightmare.

“I think Manchester United would have looked at Sanchez and thought that they would have got a lot more than that.

“I think the only people that got a deal out of this transfer was the agents because those two are nowhere near what they should be.”

The Armenian was well below par at Vicarage Road and wasted a great chance from an Alex Iwobi cross.

In 32 Premier League matches for Arsenal, Mkhitaryan has returned eight goals and eight assists.

Meanwhile, Alexis Sanchez has endured a torrid time at Manchester United and Wright said that both players have failed to play to their potential since the swap deal.

“Between these two [Mkhitaryan and Sanchez] they’ve both had an absolute nightmare. Honestly, they’ve had an absolute nightmare,” he added.

“Even if that’s the case, they have to say with the assists, it’s not enough. I think Man United will be looking at Sanchez and would’ve thought they’d have got more than that.

“The people who got the best deal out of this was the agents, really, to be honest. Them two, they’re nowhere near where they should be.”
