Arsenal have held initial talks with Boca Juniors over Cristian Pavon

Arsenal head of football Raul Sanllehi is reportedly a ‘big admirer’ of the forward, who is believed to have a £44.5m release clause with his current club.

According to Football.London, rather than looking to Nelson to fill the void left by Danny Welbeck’s injury, Arsenal will look to splash the cash for a new striker.

The club’s recruitment chief, Sven Mislintat, is reportedly “eyeing Pavon”, with the 22-year-old having impressed in Argentina with Boca Juniors.

Pavon has been with Boca since moving from Talleres in 2013 for just £1 million and has flourished with the Argentine giants, helping them to two successive titles.

Interest in him has increased in recent years, with Arsenal, Manchester City and Barcelona all linked with a move for the forward, who can play on either side of the attack.

It is believed Pavon has a release clause of £44.5m in his current contract.

However, Lille attacker Nicolas Pepe is also under serious consideration, says the Daily Star, which claims that Emery has already “made an approach” for the Ivorian ace.
