Despite being linked with almost all the available players in the transfer, there’s been dearth of new players at Arsenal at the moment. Nonetheless, Arsenal have appointed club’s legend Edu Gasper in the capacity of technical director and he has been dubbed the most important signing for the London club.
Before the arrival of Edu, Sven Mislintat was the head of recruitment for Arsenal but his responsibility was basically same as spelt out for Edu. The aforementioned German left Arsenal in February and Arsenal identified Edu as the best man to join the club in his stead.
Following his appointment, Arsenal revealed the player’s responsibility as thus: “coordinating the work of our first-team coaching group, the academy and player scouting and recruitment in order to oversee the constant building up and efficient strengthening of our squad”.
Arsenal have struggled to sign any player in this transfer window but the Gunners are definitely set for good times.
Since the Invincibles era, Arsenal have failed to win the league and their stock does not look good at the moment. Unai Emery is forced to work with a very limited budget of around £45m, making it difficult to strengthen their squad.
The Gunners look very weak in defence, a tad weak in midfield and on the wing. If they must fight for a place in the first quartet of the table, these positions must be strengthened.
Just before his appointment was confirmed, Edu sanctioned the signing of Gabriel Martinelli from Ituano. Although Martinelli joined from the fourth tier of Brazilian football, his signing is one that may come good for Arsenal in the future.
Time was when Arsenal scouts had a huge presence in South-America but that is not the case anymore. The arrival of Edu now means, our presence will be strengthened on there and we see his creativity help unearth talents from every parts of the world including his country.
Knowing the culture of Arsenal, he’s expected to bring back our very dominant style of play and he could prove our most important signing if he works with Emery.
