Arsenal transfer target Hakim Ziyech is set to extend his stay with Ajax, according to Dutch news outlet De Telegraaf.
The north London club seems to have now missed out on a wonderful chance to sign a world-class player for a bargain price.
Ziyech had a £25m release clause in his old contract, however, the Dutch club is readying a new deal which will make him the highest-paid player in the history of the Dutch top flight and are also removing the release clause.
The Gunners, along with other teams, were strongly linked with a move for Ziyech after a standout 2018/19 campaign, but no moves materialised during the summer transfer window.
Is this a huge loss for Arsenal?
Absolutely. A player of Ziyech’s quality being available for as little as £25m isn’t something that comes around often.
He was one of the best players in world football last season, netting 21 goals and registering 24 assists in all competitions.
If Ziyech does go on to sign the new lucrative deal with Ajax, then they can ask for whatever amount of money they desire for him, which is expected to be a huge fee.
Big chance of a superb signing squandered by the Gunners.
