Arsenal manager Unai Emery has confirmed Sokratis Papastathopoulos will miss Monday’s clash against Leicester City due to an injury sustained during the international break.
Sokratis came off at half-time in the 2-1 defeat to Finland on Monday with what appeared to be an ankle problem, and becomes a doubt ahead of the Leicester clash at the Emirates.
However, Emery has now confirmed reports that the centre-back suffered an ankle injury against Finland are true.
“The players are coming back now,” Emery said, when asked how his squad are after the international break.
“Only Sokratis had one problem, one small injury.
“Maybe for Monday, it’s difficult [for him to play].
“The others are OK.”
Papastathopoulos joins Petr Cech, Laurent Koscielny, Konstantinos Mavropanos and Ainsley Maitland-Niles in the treatment room.
Although Emery provided a promising update on Cech, who has been nursing a hamstring problem.
“Petr Cech is getting better from his injury but he’s not training with the group,” Emery said.
“But I think he’s very close to start with us.”
