Arsenal are eying a move for Everton youngster Ryan Astley in January after the defender failed to put pen to paper over a contract extension, the Mirror reports.
Now approaching his 17th birthday, the player still has not been signed to a professional contract, and Everton risk losing the player to another club.
Astley turns 17 next month and Everton run the risk of having the Wales Under-19 centre-half pinched from under their noses.
The North Walian is tipped for a bright future and David Unsworth handed him his debut for the Under-23s aged just 16 back in March.
Unsworth said at the time: “I can’t remember an Under-16 coming in and starting a game at his level since I’ve been here, but I thought he was the best player on the pitch. It was a stunning performance.”
Everton boasts of one of the best academy structures in the Premier League, losing a player so highly rated would come as a huge blow to the club.
