Reports claim Gunners had already made enquiries about teenager before his goal in Champions League

Arsenal have already registered their interest in one of Red Bull Salzburg’s scorers from their stunning Champions League win on Tuesday night.

Erling Braut Haaland fired a hat-trick as the Austrian side beat Genk 6-2 in their first Champions League group stage game for 25 years, while highly-rated Hungarian playmaker Dominik Szoboszlai was also on the scoresheet.

While Haaland has been banging the goals in, Arsenal were already aware of Szoboszlai’s qualities, having made enquiries about the 18-year-old earlier this summer.

That’s according to Football London , who say the Gunners have been tracking Szoboszlai with a view to a possible swoop at the end of this season.

The teenager – who has been likened to Real Madrid star Toni Kroos – is believed to have been keen to spend at least one more season proving himself at Salzburg before any potential move to one of Europe’s top leagues.

His fate could hinge on Dani Ceballos , with Arsenal unsure of what their midfield requirements will be next summer until they know whether or not the Spanish midfielder is likely to return to Real Madrid following the end of his loan spell at the Emirates.

But if Arsenal do move for Szoboszlai they are likely to face competition, with Juventus and Inter Milan also said to be monitoring the midfielder.

However, the Gunners will hope their early interest in the player will stand them in good stead.

Szoboszlai has previously said: “A lot of people say that my style of play is close to Sergej Milinkovic-Savic [of Lazio] and Toni Kroos [of Real Madrid].

“It is a great thing to hear that.”

Salzburg have a good track record of producing talented young players, with Liverpool’s Naby Keita and Sadio Mane having learned their trades at the Austrian club.

Then there’s Haaland – son of former Manchester City and Leeds midfielder Alfe Inge – who has already scored 17 goals this season and has been linked with Manchester United following his hat-trick against Genk.

Arsenal scouts have attended various Austrian Bundesliga matches recently, seeing Haaland scoring in Salzburg’s 5-1 win away to Tyrol.
