Arsenal are set for a huge windfall from a sell on clause inserted in former academy star Oguzhan Ozyakup, according to the Daily Cannon.
Ozyakup was a member of Arsenal’s academy until four years ago when he joined Besiktas for £456,000. He has improved as a player since joining the Turkish side, to the extent he was linked with a return to Arsenal last year but a move didn’t materialize as Wenger preferred to sign Granit Xhaka.
However, it has now emerged that Arsenal and Besiktas will still do business regarding Ozyakup in the future, because a 30% sell-on clause was included in his contract when he was leaving the club.
This has proven to be a great business, considering how well he has developed since leaving the Emirates.
The Turkish giants now value the midfielder at £18m and should they sell him for that fee, Arsenal are entitled to about £5.5m.
Raking in over £5m from a player we sold five years ago is a good piece of business and whoever was in charge of the deal needs to be commended.
Besiktas have tried to get Arsenal to agree into getting rid of the clause by offering around £900,000, but the Gunners have turned them down, especially when will get a lot more than that when the player is sold.
Ozyakup has established himself as a key player at Besiktas, making a total of 184 appearances for them since leaving Arsenal. West Ham as well as Tottenham are reportedly keeping close tabs on his development.
