Arsenal goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez could find himself in hot water after ‘liking’ a social media post that was calling for Unai Emery to be sacked.
The Spaniard is clinging onto his role at the Emirates following a run that has seen the Gunners win just one of their last seven matches.
The Arsenal board, at least publicly, still appear to be backing Emery but there’s only so long that the bad results can continue before they act.
Emery’s decision to strip Granit Xhaka of the captaincy is said to have ostracised members of the squad, while there are doubts about Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s suitability for the role.
And reserve goalkeeper Martinez has put himself in the firing line after ‘liking’ an ‘Emery out’ social media post on Instagram.
The post urged users to ‘like’ if they were in the ‘Emery out’ camp and Martinez duly obliged in a move that is unlikely to go down well at the Emirates.
Alexandre Lacazette was recently guilty of a similar crime but the Frenchman retracted his actions and has since defended Emery’s reign.
Arsenal head of football Raul Sanllehi told fans to stick with Emery this week but the Spaniard has lost large areas of support in recent weeks.
The Gunners face Southampton at the Emirates after the international break and a negative result could see Emery lose his job.
