Napoli goalkeeper David Ospina was taken to hospital after appearing to collapse having sustained a serious head injury against Udinese.

The Colombia international was treated by the Napoli physio in the fifth minute after a nasty collision with Ignacio Pussetto.

Ospina, currently on loan from Arsenal until the end of the season, soldiered on and watched goals from Amin Younes and Jose Callejon help Carlo Ancelotti’s side take a 2-0 lead.

The 30-year-old was powerless, however, to prevent Udinese drawing level through Kevin Lasagna and Seko Fofana, before crumpling to the floor shortly before half-time.

Medics were rushed onto the pitch after Ospina gestured towards the crowd and was loaded onto a stretcher before being taken to hospital in an ambulance with Alex Meret introduced as a substitute.

Sky Sports Italia later reported that Ospina was conscious upon his arrival at hospital where he was with his wife Jesica Sterling.

Ospina had been hopeful of facing his parent club in the Europa League after Arsenal were drawn against Napoli in a heavyweight Europa League quarter final tie.

The former Nice goalkeeper is unlikely to return to the Emirates in the summer and Napoli had already indicated they were keen to exercise the option to buy clause they inserted in his contract.
