Arsenal defender Mathieu Debuchy has revealed how his move to Nice in the summer transfer window broke down.
Debuchy was one of the few players Arsenal were desperate to sell but at the end of the day, we couldn’t find a club to take the French man off our hands.
Several factors contributed to the difficulty of getting rid of the defender and it’s been these factors that has prevented us from selling him since he was ousted from the first team in 2014.
The 32 year old has now revealed how the deal transpired and how Nice eventually opted for Christophe Jallet, leaving him furious.
To make matters worse for Debuchy, he doesn’t feature in Wenger’s plans and is currently training and playing with the U23’s. Speaking in a recent interview, he admitted that he knows he has no chance at Arsenal and isn’t the future of the club.
He said: “I play with the kids. I’m not the future of the club.”
Debuchy must be kicking himself hard for failing to secure a move away from Arsenal in the summer. He’s been out of the first team since 2015, which is a long time to be out.
Debuchy’s contract doesn’t expire until 2019, meaning the club still face a huge battle to get him off its books in the next transfer window.
