Arsenal have seen a bid of €27 million for Roma’s winger Cengiz Under rejected despite seeing a higher bid for the player previously turned down, according to the Daily Cannon.
This report is the latest in a long line of conflicting reports that have linked the Turkish international with the Gunners in recent times.
Some weeks back it was reported that the Gunners had been rebuffed in their €30 million bid attempts to sign Under.
Two weeks ago, they were said to be leading the race to sign him but Roma wanted €52 million, which was later reduced to €50 million in another report last week.
But evidence from some other reports would suggest that the Gunners are not quite in ‘pole position’ to sign the youngster as Bayern Munich are in the picture.
ForzaRoma were quoted in an article writing “In recent days there has been talk of an offer of about 50 million euros. Roma now awaits Monchi who meanwhile tries to fix the contract of Under, who now earns around a million Euros, including bonuses.”
This was coming after they quoted Under’s former club’s president Huseyin Eroglu as saying “I would not be surprised by his transfer to Bayern.
“He is a player who can bet higher. Already when he arrived in Italy they said he could not play at those levels, but he proved to be a great player.
“At Bayern, they could replace Robben, they have similar characteristics, they both love racing in the spaces.
“We are very proud of these transfers, our players are moving for record numbers”.
At €50 million, Under would be worth more than Arsenal can afford currently. But well within what Bayern can afford, and with an aging squad, the Bavarians are more likely the ones in the ‘pole position’ to sign Under.
