Arsenal begins the knockout stages of the Europa League in Belarus as they face BATE Borisov in the round of 32 on Thursday.
Unai Emery’s side will be desperate to take an away goal back to the Emirates for the second leg in two weeks’ time.
While Arsenal have fired in fits and starts in the Premier League, their form in Europe has been almost immaculate.
The north Londoners sailed through the group stage unbeaten, winning five and drawing just once to seal a place in the last 32 for the second successive season.
As Group E winners, Arsenal avoided the four best-placed teams who dropped down from the Champions League, drawing BATE, who finished as runners-up to Chelsea in Group L.
Winning the Europa League could well be Arsenal’s best chance of securing a Champions League berth next season after Emery admitted a top-four finish in the league would be ‘difficult’.
“We have played 26 games and there is one point between Manchester United and us,” Emery said after Arsenal beat Huddersfield last Saturday to keep in touch with the fourth place.
“If we ask ‘is it easy or difficult for us?’ then yes, I think it’s difficult, but we can. We are on our way.”
