AS Monaco are eyeing up a swoop for Inter Milan forward Ivan Perisic – should Arsenal reignite their interest?
According to Tuttosport, via Sky Sports, Monaco are looking to land the winger from Inter this month.
The report claims that Arsenal and Tottenham have both held interest in the player this summer, but Monaco now appear to be leading the chase to sign him.
Should Arsenal rejoin the race and make a move for Perisic?
No. Arsenal have already strengthened their attacking options with the club-record signing of Nicolas Pepe from Lille and are being linked with a loan move for Barcelona’s Philippe Coutinho.
Given that Unai Emery is in desperate need of defensive reinforcements, Arsenal should leave Monaco to pursue a deal for Perisic and focus their efforts on bringing in a central defender.
This is not to say Perisic is not an excellent player, he is. The Croatian international has been a consistent performer down the left throughout his career and is one of the best in the world at getting past his man and fizzing a low cross into the box, but Arsenal are best suited looking to add to their squad in other areas.
The report does claim that Perisic is keen on a move to the Premier League, though, so it would not be a total shock if Arsenal did make a last-minute swoop for the forward. However, it would be in their best interests to ignore Perisic and improve the defence.
