Arsenal have reignited interest in Portugal and Benfica centre-back Ruben Dias, who has been identified as a potential replacement for want-away Laurent Koscielny, per reports.
Kosclienly still has a year to run down his contract but the Gunners captain wants out of the club this summer.
The ex-France international planned to leave Arsenal with Arsene Wenger at the close of last season, but the injury he sustained in the Europa League game against Atletico Madrid in the penultimate season scuppered the possibility of any move.
And now, after laying bare his desire to leave, Arsenal have refused to budge to his request despite interest in him from several French clubs.
The 33-year-old star is wary of his stock, which would have reduced at the end of next season. However, Arsenal are operating with a very scanty budget and they do not want to part ways with the star for now, at the least.
But Arsenal have no choice than to sign a top-notch centre-halve that would become a first teamer following Koscielny’s refusal to go on pre-season tour with the rest of the squad.
And according to The Mail reports , the North London club are weighing in on a deal for Dias, who was on the transfer radar of club earlier in the summer.
The 22-year-old centre-halve has a £54 million release clause in his contract but Arsenal are hoping to striker a deal with an initial lower fee plus ad-ons.
Like we have said, the paucity of funds at the club is setting up Emery for failure and something has to be done.
