Arsenal have left Gremio chiefs ‘confused’ over their Everton Soares transfer stance.
The Gunners have broken their transfer record to complete the £72m transfer – although only £20m of the fee will paid up front.
Pepe’s move means Arsenal are unlikely to dip back into the market for another attacker before next week’s transfer deadline.
This means Wilfried Zaha and Everton are likely to remain at Crystal Palace and Gremio respectively.
The latter was heavily linked with a move to Arsenal after his exploits at the Copa America this summer.
But despite Unai Emery’s side expressing an interest in Everton’s signature, they have not followed up with an offer, according to Brazilian outlet Globe Esporte.
And with just five days left until the transfer window closes, it looks unlikely a move will materialise.
“It’s absurd. For what he played at the Copa America, we expected a flood,” said Gremio official Deco Nascimento.
“We have nothing so far. Let’s wait.”
Everton burst onto the scene earlier this summer as Brazil hosted and lifted the Copa America.
The Gremio hitman scored three goals at the tournament.
Speculation was rife regarding Everton’s supposed ‘imminent’ move last month.
In a video, posted by Everton’s wife Isa Ranieri, he could be seen practicing certain English phrases, albeit with little success.
The youngster was seen trying to pronounce ‘jacket’ and ‘dress’ among other phrases.
