Arsenal are closing in on the signing of Dortmund striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang even as their own striker Olivier Giroud is now looking to swap places with the Gabonese, according to the Daily Star.

Aubameyang has been strongly linked with a move to the Emirates recently, with the club’s transfer chiefs spotted at Dortmund, and Arsene Wenger confirming that the Gunners are in talks with the German side over the pacy striker.

The Express claim that Giroud is central to any deal, as Dortmund want him as a replacement, while Daily Star believe that Wenger doesn’t want to lose Giroud this month despite the French international’s reduced game time.

However the Daily Mail have revealed that Arsenal’s chances of landing Aubameyang has increased with all parties including Giroud keen on a transfer.

Aubameyang seems to be disenchanted with life in Dortmund, and is ready to pursue a new challenge, he has shown it with the three Dortmund managers in the last 12 months all having disciplinary issues with him.

Giroud is keen on a move to secure regular playing time as he competes against Kylian Mbappe, Arsenal teammate Lacazette, Griezmann and Anthony Martial for a spot in France World Cup squad.

The Standard claim the Gunners have tabled a second bid for Aubameyang of just above £50 million with Dortmund demanding around £55 million.

  1. I don’t see how he can play in the same line up as Lacazette. Wenger does not play 2 men up front. Unless Wenger tells one of them to play out of position. Aaah yes that may be it. (or will they simply be rotated – they won’t like that either ?)
