Barcelona confirm Marcus Rashford to Spain move discussed

Marcus Rashford is set to be priced out of a move to Barcelona because they feel it would be too expensive to lure him away from Manchester United.

Rashford, 21, is stalling on signing a new contract at Old Trafford with his current deal set to run out in 2020, but there is an option of extending it by 12 months.

The England international is believed to want more than £200,000 a week to commit himself to Manchester United and that could also be too rich for the Catalans.

And United won’t let him leave on the cheap and would demand a transfer fee around £150m or one of the brightest talents in the game.

Barca bosses feel that they can get better value for money elsewhere, despite Rashford impressing twice against them in the Champions League this season.

The 21-year-old is not rushing a decision and holds the cards as he seeks a bumper pay day.

Under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, the England international has established himself as United’s first-choice striker.

He is ahead of £75m Romelu Lukaku in the pecking order, with the Belgium international not suited to Solskjaer’s playing style.

United cannot afford to lose such an important figure in the club’s image like Rashford, especially given he came out of the academy.

While the Red Devils remain in negotiations with Rashford over his salary, that figure is expected to be too rich for Barcelona, the Daily Express say.

Wages of that nature would instantly make the United forward Barcelona’s joint-fourth highest earner alongside Philippe Coutinho – leaving him behind just Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez and Ousmane Dembele.

Rashford would arrive with a view to succeeding 32-year-old Suarez as he edges nearer the latter stage of his career.
