Arsenal have been given a clear lead in the £45m transfer battle between them and AC Milan over the signing of Barcelona midfielder Denis Suarez.

Arsenal manager Unai Emery is said to be a fan of the 24-year-old Spaniard and wants him to be part of his squad when the January transfer window opens.

As per reports from RAC1, as cited on the Metro, the La Liga giants will allow the Spaniard to leave the club providing the right offer arrives in January.

And Arsenal could have an advantage as Suarez played under Unai Emery during his loan spell at Sevilla.

This season, Suarez has not played in any Spanish La Liga game after losing his position in Ernesto Valverde’s starting XI.

The one-cap Spain international is under contract at reigning Spanish champions Barcelona until the summer of 2020.

The report also claims that Barca have told Suarez that they would be willing to sell him in January if they receive the right offer.

Suarez was understandably keen to stay at the Nou Camp and fight for his place, but he is now once again out of favour.
