Athletic Bilbao goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga who has been heavily linked with Arsenal is set to sign a new deal with the La Liga club.
It’s been claimed that Manchester United and Arsenal are looking to sign Arrizabalaga when his contract expires at the end of this season but any hope of that happening is set to be dashed as the player is now closing in on a new contract at Bilbao.
The Spanish U21 has been compared with David De Gea, meaning he is the next big thing in the La Liga, so it won’t have been possible for Bilbao to let him go without a fight.
It appears they have won the fight to keep the talented goalkeeeper as the Daily Cannon are reporting the Spanish club is willing to pay the goalkeeper around £2.7m yearly in a bid to keep him out of the reach of the big clubs circling around already.
They will also include a huge £66.5m release clause which is almost seven times the £8.8m clause on his current contract.
Should Arrizabalaga sign the new deal, Arsenal and Manchester United will have to work hard to sign the goalkeeper because Bilbao can be very difficult to negotiate with and having such a mammoth clause in the player’s contract mean breaking the world record transfer fee for a goalkeeper.
