Arsenal are one of the clubs that tried to sign Johnny Evans in the summer transfer window, Tony Pulis has confirmed
Wenger is a big admirer of Evans and it is well documented that he tried to sign the defender last summer but West Brom weren’t interested in losing him.
Manchester City were also interested in signing the defender but couldn’t meet West Brom’s demand.
Pulis has now revealed Leicester also tried to sign defender, making him one of last summer’s most sought after players.
Speaking ahead of West Brom’s 1-1 draw with Leicester City on Monday, Pulis said: “Jonny has two years left and I don’t think anything’s going to happen with Jonny for a while. If they’re talking, they’re talking. I haven’t got a problem with Jonny.
“There was a bid they (Leicester) put in and it was left to the club, as it was with Arsenal and Manchester City. We get on with it. Would Jonny have gone to Leicester? I don’t know, you’d have to speak to Jonny. Would the club have accepted it? Obviously not so there’s nothing else to talk about.
“The window affects players, it affected him and (Nacer) Chadli. It’s something they’ve decided to bring forward so it’ll only affect them a little bit less.
“He’s fine, Jonny’s fine.”
There were a lot of talks about Shkodran Mustafi leaving the club to Inter Milan and Wenger considered Evans a good replacement for the German.
However, Inter couldn’t agree a fee for Mustafi and there was no need to aggressively pursue a move for Evans.
