Antonio Conte has labeled the rumors surrounding Barkley’s decision to snub Chelsea ridiculous.
The Blues failed with a deadline day move for Barkley, despite agreeing a £30m fee with Everton. It was the player who opted against the move, insisting he wants more time to make a decision.
Lots of reports trying to explain why the midfielder snubbed a move to Chelsea have subsequently emerged and Conte believes most of those reports are inaccurate and ridiculous.
It has been claimed that Barkley snubbed a move to Chelsea because he wasn’t given the opportunity to speak with the manager who was reportedly left out of the deal because of a failed conversation with Chamberlain.
Conte has now slammed those reports, labeling them ridiculous.
“First of all, I want to tell you that I don’t like to speak about players of other teams because it is a lack of respect, Conte said, as quoted by the Daily Star.
“But what I read about this issue was ridiculous. Ridiculous. I stop. It’s ridiculous. With this adjective, I tell you my thoughts of this news.”
Barkley was one of the numerous targets Chelsea missed out on in the just concluded transfer window. Despite the challenges suffered, Conte has said he is happy with the club’s business and happy with his players. We can only hope he goes on to achieve a successful season again.
The demands of playing Champions League football and Premier League won’t be an easy but the team apparently has enough quality to see us through.
