Dominic Solanke is at the age where he needs to be playing football week in, week out, says England under-21 assistant manager Lee Carsley.

Solanke, 20, joined Liverpool from Chelsea last summer.

He has made 23 appearances for the Reds but has only started five games, two of which were against Merseyside rivals Everton.

Carsley knows Solanke well from his time with the England youth setup and hinted he may have to leave if he is not playing regularly.

“Dominic would be one of the best players that I’ve worked with at any level,” the former Everton midfielder said on Sky Sports.

“The talent that he’s got is ridiculous, he can do everything.

“He’s quick, he’s strong, he can head it, he can be a target man.

“We sometimes play him as a 10 just behind the frontman, he sees passes.

“The biggest thing for Dominic now is playing games. He’s so talented but like I say, he needs to play games.

“He’s at that age now where he needs that consistency of playing week in, week out.”
