There’s a realistic chance David Alaba leaves Bayern Munich this summer, according to reports in Germany, with 15 months on his contract.

Christian Falk of German outlet Bild reports that there’s a realistic chance David Alaba leaves Bayern Munich this summer. This comes after Sport Bild recently claimed Alaba was unsure whether to extend his contract.

The left-back still has a deal lasting until 2021, but he’s slowly running it down. Possible destinations this summer include Real Madrid and FC Barcelona.

Realistically, it’s hard to see Arsenal competing with those clubs, particularly without Champions League football. However, the player previously admitted he was a boyhood Arsenal fan.

The 27-year-old was a big fan of Patrick Vieira, and followed the Premier League a lot when he was younger. He wouldn’t be drawn on whether a move to England was likely though, only saying “we’ll see”.

As we mentioned in our previous articles, Alaba can play at centre-back, as well as on the left. That’s where he spent most of his first 28 games of the season.

The Austrian international could certainly add a lot to an Arsenal squad with plenty of left-back injuries and a shortage of left-footed centre-backs. Again, it’s just not very likely to actually happen.
