Borrusia Dortmund are believed to have joined the race to sign Arsenal target Leon Goretzka.
Various reports had revealed that Wenger is targeting the German international midfielder as part of his plans to reinvigorate his midfield next season.
Following the midfielder’s starring role for a largely second stream German side that lifted the Confederations Cup in Russia last summer, it is understood that Goretzka is being monitored by scouts from a host of top European clubs with Arsenal understood to be amongst the lot.
The 22-year-old is vastly talented and is expected to develop into one of the very best midfielders in the game. With the quality he posses, the Gunners were always expected to battle interest from other top clubs.
Recent reports have now revealed that Borrusia Dortmund are poised to join the race to sign Goretzka.
According to Bild via Daily Cannon, Dortmund, Arsenal, Liverpool and Chelsea are all keeping an eye on Goretzka at Schalke.
With no news to report regarding any progress on an extension to his contract that runs out at the end of the current campaign, Goretzka can open talks with foreign clubs about a transfer next year.
Schalke are understandably not open to the idea of losing the player and believe a contract extension can still be agreed with the midfielder.
Goretzka who joined Schalke from VFL Bochum in 2013 has since gone on to score 16 goals in 126 appearances for the club.
He has also won over 10 caps for his country and could very well be one of the stars at the World Cup next summer.
