Aaron Ramsey is expected to eventually sign a new contract with Arsenal, according to Football.London’s Charles Watts, who offered a positive update on the future of the midfielder whose deal expires next summer.

Watts revealed that his sources have informed him that things are going well in talks to extend the 27-year-old’s contract, even if club and player haven’t reached a final agreement at this stage.

“In terms of Ramsey, there is still no agreement,” he said“But I did hear from someone I trust last week that things were moving in the right direction and that he thought a new deal was not far away – which is a positive. I think he will eventually sign.”

Arsenal manager Unai Emery has once again reiterated his desire to see Aaron Ramsey sign a new contract to stay at Arsenal.

‘Aaron is an important player for us, and the contract is one thing for the club and the player,’ Emery said last month. ‘For me, I want him to stay with us, to work with us, to give the team the big performance.

‘I think he is going to stay here with us.’

The Welsh midfielder is into the final 12 months of his current deal and after a decade with the Gunners has been linked with a move away.

Premier League rivals Chelsea and Liverpool were even rumoured to be weighing up moves for the 27-year-old.

But according to the Daily Telegraph, the Gunners are close to finalising the terms of a new contract with Ramsey.
