Wolfsburg hope to finalise a season-long loan move for Arsenal ace Emile Smith Rowe this week after positive talks with the club, a British online newspaper the Independent reports.
The 19-year-old midfielder has made a successful recovery from a groin injury that hampered his six-month loan stint at RB Leipzig last campaign and Arsenal are interested that he get more senior-team minutes to continue his development.
Wolfsburg, who finished sixth in the German top-flight last season and will compete in this year’s UEFA Europa League, are frontrunners to land the academy graduate, however, their league rivals Werder Bremen have also made an attractive proposal which is under consideration by the Gunners.
Interest from Premier League and EFL Championship sides remains but the Bundesliga is seen as a more attractive option for the star to continue his development.
Smith Rowe, who penned a new five-year deal after making his breakthrough in pre-season the previous year, is viewed highly by manager Unai Emery and still considered very much part of the side’s long-term plans.
But with Nicolas Pepe’s arrival for a club-record transfer sum has confirmed, guarantees over playing time are limited and a loan switch is seen as the right next step.
