Manchester City have been disappointing this year and currently sit second in the Premier League table but third-placed Arsenal still have a game in hand on last season’s champions. Chelsea have dominated English football this season while City have struggled to put a good run of form together at times. However, there is no doubting that Manuel Pellegrini’s side are talented and City are likely to improve this summer as they bid to regain the Premier League crown. We take a look at whether the Blues can win the title next season or if they are just too far behind Jose Mourinho’s side.
They may have a new manager
After failing to win a trophy this season, the club may decide to part ways with current boss Manuel Pellegrini. The Chilean has failed to inspire his side at times this year, and they have struggled to keep pace at the top of the division. Jurgen Klopp, who recently revealed that he will leave German club Borussia Dortmund at the end of the season, is among the leading candidates – priced at 8/11 with Bookies (at time of writing) – for the head coaching role at the Etihad. Klopp would be a great appointment, and his philosophy would certainly suit City’s style of play.
They will be active in the transfer window
The Blues will be looking to improve their squad in the summer and may attempt to bring at least three new faces to the club. City are lacking a commanding midfield player, a world class striker to partner Sergio Aguero and a reliable central defender. If the Blues manage to sign excellent quality players in these positions then they will certainly challenge for the title and will boast one of the strongest squads in world football.
They have experienced players who have won the title in the past
Man City have experienced players who have won the title before, and this will help the younger players in the squad as the business end of the season approaches. Vincent Kompany, Joe Hart and Pablo Zabaleta have all featured on a regular basis since City first won the Premier League title, and their advice could be crucial for the younger players. Although the Blues may lose Yaya Toure – another experienced professional – they have more than enough experience to get the job done next year.
City are more than capable of winning the title next season. If they manage to bring Jurgen Klopp to the club, he can bring a new brand of football that entertains and ensures results. Furthermore, the German may try to bring the likes of Mats Hummels and Marco Reus to the club and if City were to sign these two players, they would stand an excellent chance of regaining the Premier League crown.
