Chelsea are in talks with Napoli over a deal to sign Elseid Hysaj in January, the Daily Mail.
The report claims that Chelsea would be willing to pay as much as €50 million for the Albanian defender in January and allow Napoli to keep him on loan until the end of the season.
Hysaj’s agent reveals the Serie A side blocked the defender’s prospective move to London during the off-season after Sarri departed the club for the Blues.
But with Davide Zappacosta out of favour, the 24-year-old looks like he may complete the switch to the Premier League after all, to team up once more with his former manager.
Sarri is anxious for Chelsea to make another bid for Hysaj after seeing an approach rebuffed during the summer.
Napoli may be unwilling to sell this winter, but it seems likely Hysaj will eventually move on. Telesport (h/t Jones) reported Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis hasn’t warmed to requests for a pay rise from the player’s agent.
Hysaj, whose contract runs out in 2021, wants to bump his wages up to €3 million and to remove a €50 million release clause.
Chelsea makes sense as a possible destination for Hysaj because of his connection with Sarri. However, the Italian’s squad is well-stocked with full-backs.
