AS Roma lining up a move for Danny Drinkwater in the summer.
The Chelsea midfielder is all-but forgotten at Stamford Bridge, having joined in 2017 for £34m and failed to establish himself under Antonio Conte or Maurizio Sarri.
And former Leicester and Fulham manager Claudio Ranieri has now taken over in Rome on a caretaker basis following the dismissal of Eusebio Di Francesco after the club’s Champions League exit against Porto.
Ranieri has recommended Drinkwater as a possible signing for the Serie A side, according to Football Italia, after working with him in the famous title-winning Leicester City side.
Drinkwater, who is also wanted on-loan by West Ham, currently pockets £100k-a-week at Stamford Bridge.
Sarri has admitted he has no plans to use the England international in his 4-3-3 formation, saying: “I think he is more suitable for playing with two midfielders.
“He is not a central midfielder, he is not a centre-right in the midfielder with three players. But he’s a very good player in a 4-4-2.”
