According to report via The Mirror, Chelsea are finally ready to reward David Luiz with a contract extension at the club.
The Brazilian international was heavily linked with a move away from the Stamford Bridge in the summer transfer window but following the arrival of Maurizio Sarri, it seems he still has a future at Chelsea.
The Centre-back fell out of favour under manager Antonio Conte last season but has started all five league fixtures prior to the international break, despite Sarri switching to a back four.
Sarri’s positive outlook – and not just in terms of his coaching – has helped to rejuvenate the Blues career of a player who was so pivotal in the title triumph of 2016-17.
The former Napoli coach has a 100 percent record in the Premier League since replacing departed compatriot Antonio Conte at Stamford Bridge.
The former PSG star sees his current deal at Chelsea come to its expiration at the end of the ongoing season, meaning that he’ll be able to move on for free in the summer.
Chelsea hopes this will not be the case, though, as they prepare to negotiate an extended stay for Luiz in West London.
The report further claims that the 31-year-old wants a two-year deal at £125,000 a week ($164.34 a-week)– but that’s very unlikely. The policy at Chelsea is to not offer more than one year to players over 30, and even David Luiz doesn’t get to be an exception there.
