Chelsea could lock horns with Valencia in their pursuit of Arsenal contract rebel Aaron Ramsey, as reported by Calciomercato.
The Blues have been heavily linked with a move for the Wales international in recent times and it seems they face fresh competition from Spain, with Valencia keen.
The Welshman was close to signing a new deal with Arsenal at the start of the season but the Gunners withdrew the offer without providing an explanation.
Ramsey’s failed to tie down a regular starting position under Unai Emery but he’s out of contract at the end of the season and can negotiate with clubs in January.
Sky Sports claims Arsenal have told Ramsey they had withdrawn their contract offer to the midfielder because he no longer fits their vision of the club’s future.
Ramsey has now accepted that this will be his last season at the Emirates following a decade of service to the north London club, in which he has made 341 appearances and scored 59 goals since joining from Cardiff City for just under £5m in 2008.
Emery has been pleased with Ramsey’s performances and said last week he hopes the player will remain focused on the rest of the campaign.
“Aaron and the club can speak and he can think for his individual contract with the club and with his thinking maybe of the possibility that he won’t continue here,” he said. “But, for me, for us and for the team, it’s about being together and getting better and in each training for us.”
