Arsenal new boss Unai Emery has provided an injury update about his squad fitness ahead of the weekend clash against Chelsea, according to the Evening Standard.
The Gunners currently have defensive problems with Nacho Monreal, Sead Kolasinac and Ainsley Maitland-Niles out injured
However, Emery is hopeful that Nacho Monreal can open his campaign for the season against the Blues, following his first training session back at London Colney on Saturday from a knee injury.
Nacho started working with the group on Wednesday and fans hope he will be fit enough to resume his normal position for the Gunners at left-back.
The Gunners have a good record against the Blues in previous meetings having gone unbeaten in each of their last six competitive meetings.
Should Monreal fail to make the squad Emery will have to field Stephan Lichtsteiner who is naturally a right-back at that position like he played against City when he replaced Maitland-Niles after he picked up an injury in that game.
While Kolasinac has been ruled out and is not expected back for around two months with a knee problem he picked against Chelsea during the pre-season clash in Ireland the Gunners will be hoping to secure their first three points against their tough rivals.
Who is out for Chelsea
Cess Fabregas is recovering from a knee injury while Gary Cahill is still working his way back to match fitness following the World Cup – both are doubts for the weekend.
Midfielder Marco van Ginkel will be out for around eight months after having knee surgery this summer.
