Chelsea will reportedly launch an £80 million offer for Crystal Palace winger Wilfried Zaha in the winter market if they can get their two-window transfer ban overturned.

Manager Frank Lampard has faced a testing start to his managerial career at Chelsea, prevented from adding to the roster he inherited from the Italian tactician Maurizio Sarri and opting to sell his most experienced centre-back in David Luiz to Arsenal on deadline day with the South American said to have become a disruptive influence.

According to the Sun, the Blues are confident they can overturn the punishment the club received from FIFA and will look to prise Wilfried from Selhurst Park come the turn of the year.

The 26-year-old star was coveted by Arsenal earlier this summer but Unai Emery’s side failed to tempt Palace with a £40 million bid and subsequently, switched their attentions to Nicolas Pepe, who ultimately cost a club-record £72 million.

Everton, too, were not able to tempt the Eagles into selling their key man, who handed in a transfer request on Wednesday and didn’t train on Thursday ahead of Saturday’s first match of the season, ironically against the Merseysiders.

The Toffees were ready to put cash plus players deal together worth around £100 million for Zaha and pay the former Manchester United forward £200,000 per week but Palace refused to budge.

The Toffees signed Alex Iwobi from the Gunners on deadline day for close to £40 million and are therefore unlikely to return for Wilfried, leaving Chelsea potentially with a free run at the versatile attacker.
