Claudio Ranieri doesn’t buy into reports that Antonio Conte will leave Chelsea at the end of the season.
Reports say Conte’s unhappy at Stamford Bridge, after the club failed to back him in the transfer market with his preferred targets.
The manager even fueled those exit rumors, after he granted an interview where he stated he misses Italy.
And Ranieri believes Conte’s comment is because of the club’s difficult transfer window and not necessarily because he wants to return home.
“The Premier League remains the top, and I’m not convinced by Conte’s homesickness,” he said of Conte’s comments about returning to Italy.
“Maybe he was expecting a different transfer campaign, but for a few years now [Roman] Abramovich hasn’t been doing crazy spending. “Manchester United and Manchester City have made great signings, so I imagine it’s more draining for Antonio to be fighting on two fronts with the same players.”
Conte guided Chelsea to the Premier League title in his first year in England but is now finding it more difficult this time around, after both Manchester clubs strengthened their club considerably in the summer.
However, Chelsea’s activities in the transfer window frustrated us as fans, so it isn’t surprising that the manager is unhappy about it.
Conte’s achievements last season have endeared him to the heart of Chelsea”s supporters and many of us will be keen to see him stay for a long time.
