The Sun are reporting Arsenal are on the brink of signing Sampdoria defensive midfielder Lucas Torreira this summer.
The 22-year-old is in Uruguay’s squad for Russia 2018 and is said to have attracted interest from Liverpool, Everton, Juventus and Napoli.
Sampdoria sporting director Carlo Osti told Rai Sport: “Torreira has a €25m ($29.46m) release clause, everyone knows that.
“Anyone who wants him will have to pay that.”
And reports in Italy claim that a path has been cleared for his exit after Sampdoria clinched a deal to sign Lokomotiv Zagreb’s Lovro Majer as his replacement.
Over the weekend Italian news outlet ANSA claimed that Torreira’s move to Arsenal is moving “closer and closer”.
Last season Torreira played 38 matches for the Serie A club, as he found the back of the net four times and provided one assist.
Torreira joined Sampdoria from Pescara in 2015 and has made 74 appearances in all competitions.
He is under contract with the Serie A outfit until the summer of 2022.
