Diego Costa rejected a move to Monaco in the summer transfer window, according to reports in France.

Atletico Madrid were in talks with Chelsea all summer over the transfer of the striker but both clubs couldn’t reach an agreement because of finance.

Costa was told in June that he was no longer part of Conte’s plans and he made no secret of his desire to return to Atletico if he is to leave Stamford Bridge.

According to French publication L’Equipe via the Express, Monaco wanted to sign Costa as a replacement for Kylian Mbappe but they were turned down by the stiker.

Monaco were aware of Costa’s situation and knew he wanted to leave England so they explored the possibility of signing him to replace Mbappe but it appears they were told that the player had no interest in moving to Monaco. As a result, Jardim didn’t bother making an official bid for the striker.

Everton and AC Milan were also interested in the striker but a transfer to either of those clubs failed.

Costa’s career remains unresolved and the striker faces the possibility of spending the next four months out of football.

He is still in Brazil and has refused to return back to Chelsea, despite the club punishing him for his refusal to return.
