The summer window saw the arrival of just two senior players at the Emirates, but it’s no secret that Arsene Wenger intensely scoured the transfer market looking for options to bolster his ranks.

Thomas Lemar, Johnny Evans to mention a few were amongst those heavily linked with a move to the Emirates, you can now add Bayern Munich forward Thomas Muller to the list of those who the gaffer had an interest in.

The German international struggled for game time last season following the appointment of Carlo Ancelotti at Bayern last summer.

Muller usually played as one of the double act alongside Lewandowski, but found himself playing as back up to Lewandowski under Ancelotti as the Italian coach insisted on system that required a sole striker. While he is versatile enough to play on the flanks, he didn’t meet Ancelotti’s demands of a winger.

With the World Cup winner out of the first team, top clubs around Europe began to monitor the situation as expected.

Bild via Tribal Football reveals there was no shortage of interest in the star, the Gunners alongside Premier League rivals Chelsea and Liverpool as well as Italian giants Juventus all registered interests in the player.

The report however goes on to add that the Germany international was not receptive to a move and is for the moment staying put in Munich.

For a player who has been at the club for his entire career, just a season out of the first team was always not be enough to convince him about a switch. That could very well play into the hands of the Gunners who would look to be a more attractive option by qualifying for the Champions League next season. Without Europe’s premier competition on offer this summer, the Gunners had no chance of signing such a star player.
