Belgium journalist Kristof Terreur believes Eden Hazard would have joined Real Madrid in the summer had it not been the ankle injury he sustained in June.
Hazard has long been linked with a move to Real, with Fiorentino Perez reportedly willing to make him the next galactico signing.
And Terreur believes the move could have happened in the summer had Hazard not sustained an ankle injury while training for Belgium at the end of the season.
“As long as Zidane is the manager it will always pop up,” Terreur said, as reported by the Daily Star.
“But I think Chelsea are trying to convince him to sign a new contract.
“I think if he hadn’t injured himself at the end of last season during the international period with Belgium, it might have happened already.
“That has slowed down everything, as has the rise of (Marco) Asensio.”
Terreur then contradicted himself by saying Hazard is happy at Chelsea and isn’t looking to leave the club just yet.
“He’s very happy in London, in Cobham,” he added. “He doesn’t like the limelight.
“His kids speak better English than him so that’s important to him, to his family life. That will play an important role too if he ever moves to Real Madrid.”
How Hazard could have joined Madrid already when he is still happy at Cobham is beyond me.
The truth is there’s nothing we can do about these Madrid-Hazard links, it will always pop up but I don’t think Chelsea will allow the Belgian leave Stamford Bridge.
