Arsene Wenger claims Ozil wants to stay at Arsenal.

The Germany international is already into the final year of his contract and is yet to agree a new deal with the club.

However, Wenger believes Ozil wants to stay at Arsenal despite the impasse in contract negotiations.

Manchester United are reportedly interested in signing the German as Mourinho want to sign him for free at the end of the season.

Wenger responded to those rumors by claiming Arsenal could sell Ozil and Sanchez in January, in order to avoid losing them for nothing. However, the boss has now admitted that the German could still sign a new contract at the Emirates.

He said: “I cannot tell you what is in his mind. I genuinely think he wants to stay. But I am always positive about that.”

If Ozil wants to stay, the only logical reason he hasn’t signed a new deal is probably because he wants a higher salary that’s being offered.

Reports are claiming the German wants at least £350,000 a week, which will more than double his current salary.

His agent recently raised our hope by claiming talks are in a good stage, so it is possible that both parties will reach an agreement before the end of the season.

Ozil has spent four years at Arsenal, providing 66 assists in over 150 games, the highest of any player in that period, making him the club’s creator-in-chief.
