Wilshere is gradually forcing his way back into Wenger’s plans after being close to leaving the club in the summer.
The England international was transfer listed in the summer transfer window but no club was willing to spend on a player who hasn’t managed to stay fit in recent years.
Wilshere has only made four appearances for Arsenal this season and three of them has been in the Europa League and one in the League cup.
There were talks of Wilshere not being part of Wenger’s plans this season but that’s not the case anymore as the manager has now revealed that the midfielder is making a strong claim for a place in the first team.
Speaking after Wilshere’s performance against Red Star Belgrade on Thursday, Wenger said:
“He will get a chance in the Premier League, don’t worry about that.
“I think at the moment it’s going like that. He got a big kick in the first half on his ankle but he managed to get through the 90 minutes and games of that intensity will, of course, help him a lot.”
Wilshere is currently recovering from a broken leg injury he sustained at Bournemouth last season and Thursday’s performance was a big step on his road to full fitness.
To be fair, Wenger deserves credit for the way he has handled Wilshere’s situation, he has done it very well. Wilshere needs to be fit enough to play in the Premier League and the only way we can achieve that is by easing him into action gradually, like the boss is doing.
