Reports making the round claims Chelsea have made an official contact in signing Borussia Dortmund star Christian Pulisic when the January transfer window opens.
Sources in Germany say Chelsea spoke with Dortmund on Friday about acquiring the 20-year-old winger for £70 million ($89m).
Pulisic has been in good form for Dortmund this season, showing his ability on both the domestic and European stage. However, negotiations to extend the 20-year-old’s contract are understood to have stalled.
When grilled in a press conference regarding his team’s intentions for the player, Maurizio Sarri was deliberately evasive when answering, he believes discussing another club’s player to be unprofessional.
Nevertheless, Sarri has refused to be drawn on the speculation, saying that to discuss a player he does not own would be improper.
“Pulisic is a Borussia Dortmund player and I don’t want to talk about a player of another club,” Sarri told reporters on Tuesday. “It’s not professional, I think.”
It is understood Dortmund have already targeted Thorgan Hazard who is the younger brother of Chelsea’s Eden, to replace Pulisic.
Chelsea sold Hazard to Borussia Monchengladbach for £5.9m in 2015 and as part of the sale they installed an option allowing them to match any bid a club make, so they have an option to re-sign the 25-year-old.
