Chelsea are set to renew their interests in Ross Barkley, with a bid being prepared to sign him from Everton, according to the Daily Mail.
Chelsea agreed a deal to sign the midfielder last summer, but Barkley snubbed the Blues on deadline day, with the Daily Mail saying he preferred a move to Tottenham where he was more guaranteed of regular football.
And the Metro say he was interested in Chelsea but wanted to regain his fitness before making such a major decision over his future.
Either way Tottenham who were also interested in signing him were unwilling to make a move at the time because of his serious hamstring injury.
However, he is two weeks away from full fitness and the interest has been revived, with Maurico Pochettino looking to increase the English contingent in his squad.
‘We are focused on trying to bring more English players through the academy,’ said Tottenham boss Pochettino, last week.
‘If we don’t have this profile we will try to take advantage of the English market and add more English players here.’
Antonio Conte has used a five-man midfield in a number of big games this season and seems to favour it, this will offer more opportunity for a player with Ross Barkley’s skill set.
Barkley’s contract will expire in the summer, and the Metro believes that both Chelsea and Everton are hoping to resolve Barkley’s future early in January to avoid another saga running through the window.
Arsenal have also been credited with an interest in Barkley last summer.
