Arsenal want to open transfer talks with Leon Goretzka in January, according to reports.

Goretzka, 22, first caught the admiration of Arsene Wenger with his superb performances for Schalke 04 last season.

He continued his fine form at last summer’s FIFA confederation cup and took into the current season, showing everyone he can perform well consistently.

Although, he is currently out injured, he has done enough to convince Wenger to step up his interest in him.

According to the Daily Mail via the Daily Cannon, Arsenal will hold talks with the midfielder in the new year.

However, we are not alone in the race to sign the midfielder as Juventus and Manchester City are also keeping a close watch on his situation.

The report says Goretzka is aware of interest in his services but will not hold talks with any interested party until January.

It remains to be seen whether Wenger will be able to pull this one off. I hope he does because at 22, Goretzka has a lot of years ahead of him to improve and should he keep his head down, he could become a world class midfielder and a great signing for us in no distant time.

Arsenal will fancy their chances of signing Goretzka, after managing to capture Sead Kolasinac who was in the same situation last season.

Although, we would face more competition for Goretzka than we faced for Kolasinac, I believe we can pull this off also if we appeal to him just like we did to Kolasinac.
